About the course

Narcissism without oversimplification.

Academia Enlevo's Certification in Narcissism — Symptoms, Diagnoses and Treatments was developed for those who wish to understand, with seriousness and caution, narcissism, patterns of emotional manipulation, the impacts of abusive relationships and the care required when dealing with this subject in personal, clinical, family, professional and institutional contexts.

Narcissism is a very present subject on social media and in discussions about emotional abuse. Precisely because it is so exposed, it has become a topic full of oversimplifications. Many people use the word “narcissist” as an insult or an informal diagnosis. This usage can confuse more than it clarifies.

That is why the course proposes a more organized approach. The student studies narcissism as a personality trait, as a relational pattern, as suffering involved in abusive relationships and, at an educational level, as a topic associated with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The aim is not to teach people to go around diagnosing others, but to offer resources to recognize dynamics and understand emotional impacts.

Throughout the certification, the student engages with gaslighting, projection, coercive control, hoovering, triangulation, the abuser's allies, emotional abuse, recovery after abusive relationships and narcissism in the workplace. It is a short, non-degree professional qualification, especially recommended for professionals and students with a prior background in psychology or psychoanalysis.

The concept

What is narcissism?

Narcissism can be understood at different levels. In a broad sense, everyone has some form of investment in themselves, in their image, in their desires and in being recognized. This level takes part in building identity and should not automatically be treated as pathology.

The problem arises when narcissism is organized in a rigid or destructive way within relationships. At high levels, narcissistic traits may involve an excessive need for admiration, difficulty recognizing the suffering of others, a sense of superiority, intolerance of frustration, manipulation, emotional exploitation, disparagement and fragility in the face of criticism.

In the clinical field there is Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a mental health condition that must be assessed by qualified professionals. This diagnosis is not made through superficial observation, short videos or isolated conflicts — it requires clinical criteria, the person's history and a persistent pattern of functioning.

This course works with this distinction: studying narcissism is not the same as diagnosing someone. The student learns to recognize patterns and understand impacts, but must always respect the limits of their training and of professional legislation.

Abusive bonds

Narcissism, emotional abuse and abusive relationships.

Many people look for a course on narcissism because they have lived through, witnessed or treated situations of emotional abuse. In relationships marked by manipulation, the victim may experience confusion, guilt, doubt about their own perception, isolation, fear, loss of self-esteem and difficulty trusting themselves.

Narcissistic abuse is a popular expression used to describe relationships in which someone uses control, manipulation and emotional devaluation to maintain power over another person. It is important not to turn every conflict into narcissistic abuse or to reduce every difficult person to a diagnosis.

An abusive relationship may involve cycles of idealization, devaluation and discard: intense praise at the beginning, followed by criticism, punitive silence, blame reversal, veiled threats and attempts to make the victim believe they are exaggerating.

The goal is to study these dynamics with clarity. The focus is not to feed persecution or labels, but to understand patterns of functioning, psychological effects, protection strategies and paths to emotional recovery.

Who it is for

Four entry points.

Each person comes to the study of narcissism through a different door — a career change, a calling to listen, professional development or the pursuit of excellence. Delicate subjects cannot be treated superficially.

Career change
A thematic entry point for those who wish to better understand mental health, relational suffering and patterns of manipulation, without immediately starting a long training program.

A calling to listen
For those who are sought out in moments of suffering and want to turn intuition into understanding, welcoming without judging and guiding without intruding.

Health and humanities professionals
Psychologists, psychoanalysts, therapists, HR, social workers and legal professionals who encounter emotional manipulation in different contexts.

Seekers of excellence
For those who want to understand with rigor, without turning the subject into a spectacle — studying soberly, protecting victims and avoiding irresponsible diagnoses.

Objectives

What you will expand.

The central objective is to offer a structured understanding of narcissism, narcissistic manipulation, emotional abuse and the psychological impacts on victims of abusive relationships. By the end, the student is expected to have expanded their ability to:

  • Understand narcissism as a trait, a relational pattern and a topic associated with mental health.
  • Distinguish the popular use of the word “narcissist” from the clinical diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
  • Recognize emotional manipulation techniques such as gaslighting, projection, coercive control, hoovering, triangulation and the use of third parties.
  • Understand how abusive relationships can affect self-esteem, identity, emotional regulation and cognitive functioning.
  • Identify signs of disparagement, blame reversal, isolation and emotional dependence in abusive bonds.
  • Reflect on narcissism in the workplace and its impacts on teams, leadership and occupational mental health.
  • Study strategies for emotional protection and for safely ending abusive relationships.
  • Understand processes of emotional recovery after narcissistic abuse.
  • Recognize ethical limits: studying narcissism does not authorize informal diagnosis, reports or practice beyond prior training.
What you develop

Skills throughout the program.

Narcissism without oversimplification
Distinguishing self-esteem, narcissistic traits, abusive behavior and personality disorder — avoiding hasty labels.

Ways of thinking about emotional protection, boundaries, support networks and safely ending bonds, while respecting risk contexts.

Manipulation, humiliation, destructive competition, workplace bullying, abusive leadership and triangulation in the professional environment.

Recovery after abuse
Rebuilding self-esteem, reclaiming identity, strengthening autonomy and seeking professional support when necessary.

Ethics in the use of knowledge
Using knowledge responsibly — not to persecute, expose or diagnose, but to broaden understanding, listening and protection.

Virtual environment

How it works: the platform.

The course takes place in Academia Enlevo's virtual learning environment, with online content, assignments, assessments, PDF materials, books and performance tracking.

The platform makes the study experience more organized and accessible. Because it is 100% online, the student can study from wherever they are, as long as they have internet access.

As a 60-class-hour qualification, the course can be completed in a shorter period, depending on the student's availability and dedication, in accordance with the platform's academic rules.

Access to the course is granted after the bank confirms payment. Boleto bank slips and other payment methods may depend on the clearing times of financial institutions.

Certificate and limits

60 hours, certificate and transparency.

The Certification in Narcissism has 60 class hours. Upon completing the content, carrying out the activities and meeting the pass criteria, the student receives a certificate of completion issued by Academia Enlevo.

This is a non-degree professional qualification course. It is not an undergraduate degree, not a technical course, not a lato sensu postgraduate program accredited by MEC, and it does not replace regulated training in Psychology, Medicine, Psychiatry, Social Work or other fields.

This course does not make the student a psychologist, physician, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst or therapist, and does not, by itself, authorize diagnosing Narcissistic Personality Disorder, issuing reports, administering psychological tests or prescribing treatments.

The course is recommended for those who already have training or prior knowledge in psychology, psychoanalysis, therapy or related fields. Academia Enlevo does not promise employment, a patient caseload, income, clinical qualification or automatic recognition.
