Psychoanalysis training for therapists and coaches
Holistic and integrative therapists and coaches can take Academia Enlevo’s psychoanalysis training to give what they already practice a solid theoretical and clinical foundation. Psychoanalysis offers a method of listening, a theory of the symptom and an ethics of clinical work, which are what is usually missing for those who work only with techniques.
The training is 100% online, with 720 hours in the Método Alma Enlevo, live classes every two weeks (recorded), and cohorts for debate and case analysis. See also Psychoanalysis gives a foundation to what you already do.
How psychoanalysis expands your work
- Intuition has limits: the theory of the unconscious puts a name to what you perceive and helps sustain a reading of the case.
- Repeated patterns in clients: understanding why the same complaint comes back, even after techniques that worked for a while.
- Transference: recognizing the place the client puts you in, and using it in favor of the treatment.
- When to refer: identifying situations that call for a psychiatrist or a psychologist.
What you can and cannot do
Once you complete the training, you can work as a psychoanalyst in private practice, in person or online.
A psychoanalyst is neither a psychologist nor a physician. Anyone without a degree in psychology may not present themselves as a psychologist, and no therapist may prescribe medication. Cases involving risk to life, a severe crisis or a psychiatric condition must be referred to health professionals.
A therapist’s routine × what the training adds
| In the practice routine | What the training adds |
|---|---|
| A client who improves and then goes back to the same point | A reading of repetition and of the symptom |
| Sessions that depend on a specific technique | A method of listening that applies to any case |
| Uncertainty about what to say and what not to say | Ethics of clinical work and handling of transference |
| Cases that seem beyond your reach | Criteria for referral |
