Psychoanalysis training for lawyers and legal professionals

Lawyers, mediators and legal professionals can take Academia Enlevo’s psychoanalysis training. Psychoanalysis broadens the reading of conflict: separations, custody disputes, mediation and the subject behind the case. For those who want to go deeper, Enlevo also offers the Forensic Psychoanalysis course.

The training is 100% online, with 720 hours in the Método Alma Enlevo, live classes every two weeks (recorded), and cohorts for debate and case analysis.

How psychoanalysis expands your work

  • Family law: understanding what repeats itself in separations and custody disputes, beyond what is in the case file.
  • Mediation: listening to what the parties do not say and to what stands in the way of an agreement.
  • Forensic psychoanalysis: studying the relationship between subject, crime and responsibility.
  • Desire and the law: understanding why the law organizes human conflict, and why it sometimes fails to.

What you can and cannot do

Once you complete the training, you can work as a psychoanalyst in private practice, in person or online, and use the psychoanalytic reading in your legal work.

The training does not replace official expert examination. Psychological reports are the responsibility of psychologists, and psychiatric expert examinations, of psychiatrists. In a case, the lawyer keeps acting as a lawyer: providing psychoanalytic treatment to a client would be a conflict of roles.

A legal professional’s routine × what the training adds

In the legal routineWhat the training adds
Contested divorce and custody disputeA reading of the family conflict and of what repeats itself
A stalled mediation sessionListening to what the parties cannot manage to say
A client in distress during the caseResources to offer support without leaving the role of lawyer
Criminal casesA theoretical foundation for forensic psychoanalysis

Frequently asked questions

Can a lawyer take psychoanalysis training?

Yes. Psychoanalysis does not require a degree in psychology, and Academia Enlevo accepts students from any field. See Training without a degree.

Can I issue reports as a psychoanalyst?

No. Psychological reports are the responsibility of psychologists, and psychiatric expert examinations, of physicians. The training broadens your reading of the case, not your legal scope of practice.

Which course is best for someone who works on criminal cases?

The Clinical Psychoanalysis training provides the foundation; the Forensic Psychoanalysis course goes deeper into the subject.
