Cohorts: where psychoanalysis becomes a conversation

At Academia Enlevo, psychoanalysis training is online, but it is not solitary. Each student joins a cohort, and new cohorts start frequently. The cohort is the space for debate among peers: students discuss ideas, concepts, theories and clinical cases throughout the entire training.

Enlevo forms cohorts as a teaching choice, not because of a scheduling limitation. Psychoanalysis is passed on through exchange: no one learns to listen just by reading.

Why the cohort matters in training a psychoanalyst

Since Freud, psychoanalysis has developed in groups. The Wednesday Psychological Society, which met at Freud’s home from 1902 on, was basically a cohort: people from different backgrounds debating cases and concepts.

Studying alone lets you accumulate information. Debating with classmates forces you to defend a reading, hear objections and revise your positions, which are exactly the skills clinical work demands.

The cohort also creates bonds. In the testimonials, students thank their own cohort and say they formed study groups with their classmates.

What cohorts discuss

  • Fundamental concepts: the unconscious, repression, drive, transference.
  • Text readings: Freud and post-Freudian authors, interpreted together.
  • Clinical cases: diagnostic hypotheses, handling of transference, ethics.
  • Everyday questions: how psychoanalysis shows up at work, at school and in the family.

A cohort does not mean waiting

Some schools open a cohort once or twice a year. At Enlevo, cohorts start frequently, so you don’t have to wait months to begin. The pace at which you study the content is yours; meeting with the cohort is what gives that study direction.

Frequently asked questions

Does Enlevo’s online training include interaction with other students?

Yes. The cohort is a central part of the method, with debate and case analysis.

How often does a new cohort start?

New cohorts start frequently. The date of the next one appears on the training page.

Do I need to be online at a fixed time?

No. There are two live classes a month, and all of them are recorded: if you can’t attend live, you watch the recording later. The recorded content can be studied whenever you want.

What if I need to pause?

You can pause for up to 12 months and come back where you left off. See Investment and terms.
